En dehors de son unique participation à une pièce musicale avant la guerre, puis son rôle en vedette à la création de "Plume au vent" (éclipsée par la reprise de Georges Guétary), Gaston Rey fut un de ces innombrables seconds rôles qui faisaient le sel du cinéma français des années 40-50, et surtout un des principaux piliers du service lyrique de la radio pendant la quasi totalité de l'existence de celui-ci, de 1947 à 1970 (plus de 700 enregistrements, dont on trouvera un bon échantillon ci-dessous !). Il s'était spécialisé à cette époque dans les rôles de barbons, l'âge venant !
